Madonie Park
Nature, Tradition and Unique Discoveries
A Journey through Nature and Biodiversity
Madonie Park is one of Sicily's gems, a place where nature reveals itself in its most authentic form. With its centuries-old forests, peaks over 2,000 metres high and unrivalled biodiversity, the park is home to endemic species such as the Nebrodi fir and a variety of wild orchids. Exploring its trails means immersing yourself in a universe of scents, colours and silence that tell the story of an ancient land.
For stargazers, the Gal Hassin, the Madonie Astronomical Observatory, offers an extraordinary experience. Located in Isnello, this centre of excellence for sky observation allows you to admire the cosmos in one of the darkest areas of Europe, ideal for discovering distant galaxies and the wonders of the universe.

Location and geology
The Madonie are a mountain range in northern Sicily, about 70 km from Palermo. The main peak is Pizzo Carbonara (1,979 m), the second highest peak in Sicily after Mount Etna. Since 1989, the area has been protected as a Natural Park.
Due to their geological importance, the Madonie Mountains are part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks. They feature sedimentary rocks (limestone, sandstone, marl) dating back over 200 million years, often rich in marine fossils.
Bergi is located right in the heart of this natural ecosystem, in the municipality of Castelbuono to be precise.
Biodiversity
The Madonie Park is the richest in biodiversity in Sicily and among the richest in the Mediterranean, with over 1,600 plant species. The climatic variety, from the coast to 2,000 metres, favours a diverse flora.
The symbol of the park is the Madonie fir (Abies Nebrodensis), an endemic species. The park is also famous for its monumental trees (giant holly trees, thousand-year-old downy oaks) and 65 species of wild orchids.

Culture and Traditions among Villages, Flavours and the Sea
The medieval villages of the Madonie Mountains are a journey back in time, where historic architecture intertwines with centuries-old traditions. Castelbuono, in particular, is known for its Castello dei Ventimiglia, which houses the precious Cappella Palatina and the reliquary of Sant'Anna. Strolling through the streets of Castelbuono means discovering artisan shops and tasting local specialities, such as panettone made with manna, a natural sweetener extracted from the ash trees of the area, a symbol of Madonie tradition.
For those seeking adventure, the Madonie Adventure Park offers an immersive experience with tree-top trails and activities designed for adults and children, making it an unmissable stop for families on holiday.
During your stay in the Madonie, you can alternate mountain exploration with a relaxing day at the beach. A few kilometres away is Cefalù, with its crystal-clear waters and famous Norman Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoying the sun on the beach and strolling through the narrow streets of the seaside village is an experience that completes the discovery of this land rich in contrasts.
